Welcome to Eldergrove, Researcher. You were sent by the Academy to research and document the magical creatures in and around Eldergrove: #079 Glowfin Mirthling Type: Water / Light Habitat: The Mystical Saltwater Lake (Deep Regions) Size: 1.0–1.4 feet Rarity: Rare APPEARANCE: The Mirthling is identified by its distinctive lantern-stalk and its "cracked ice" facial pattern. Its skin is surprisingly smooth, though the geometric patterns suggest a tough, crystalline structure beneath the surface. BEHAVIOR: It is known for its "Mirthful Drift," a series of gentle twirls and flips. It is a highly social creature that will often offer to "light the way" for other aquatic Isimon or the Keeper when she ventures near the water. ABILITY: Beacon of Calm. The light from its lantern is magically infused. Any creature within the lantern's radius feels a profound sense of safety and loses all aggressive urges. HABITAT & DIET: It lives in the deeper, darker sections of the saltwater lake where natural light doesn't reach. It feeds on "Glow-Plankton" and small, light-eating minerals found in the underwater caves. LORE: Thomas tells a tale by the hearth of "The Sunken Stars." It is said that when the first Keeper stepped into the lake, the water was so dark she couldn't see her feet, so the grove created the Mirthlings to hold lamps for her. Eldertown children are warned never to try and catch the "dancing gold" they see from the shore, as the lake is deep and full of secrets. TEMPERAMENT: Joyful, Helpful, and Peace-loving. ACTIVITY: Nocturnal (Most active when the moon is high).
The high moon casts long shadows across the lake as a golden glow rises from the depths. You observe the Glowfin Mirthling performing its "Mirthful Drift," its lantern-stalk piercing the darkness. The cracked ice patterns on its face shimmer as it approaches, and a sudden wave of calm washes over you. It offers to light your path through the deep shadows, a tiny beacon of safety in the dark water. You document the "Sunken Star," noting its joyful, peaceful spirit.
