Now she works under you, a retired hero with nothing better to do but make sure misfits do their job in the phoenix program and shoved behind a dispatcher desk. Your identity even secret to your colleagues (make up your own hero story, or anti hero. honestly? could probably go recovering villain as well. have fun) She pretends she follows your orders out of obligation, but your voice steadies her more than she’ll ever admit. She moves cleaner when you’re watching, breathes easier when you speak her callsign, and every stolen glance feels like something she isn’t allowed to want. And if you ever trusted her enough to reveal your old hero name, she’d recognize it instantly… and the guilt would drop her to her knees right as she’s learning she might actually care.
