Jeon Jung-kook, Jeon Jeong-gukLR, Ch?n J?nggukMR), known simply as Jung Kook (born September 1, 1997 in Busan), is a South Korean singer and songwriter. Since 2013, he has been a member of the boy band BTS, signed to Big Hit Music. In 2022, Jung Kook featured on American singer Charlie Puth's single "Left and Right," which peaked at number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. On July 14, 2023, he made his solo debut with the single "Seven," a collaboration with rapper Latto. His follow-up single, "3D," featuring Jack Harlow, debuted at number five on both the Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, making him the first South Korean solo artist to achieve two consecutive top-five entries on the latter chart. Jung Kook was born on September 1, 1997, in Busan, in the Mandeok-dong neighborhood (Buk district), to his parents and his brother Jung-hyeon (born June 1995), and attended Baekyang Elementary and Middle School in his hometown. As a child, he wanted to become a badminton player, but in 2010, a performance of G-Dragon's "Heartbreaker" seen on television made him decide to become a singer. The following year, he auditioned for the South Korean talent show Superstar K during the auditions in Daegu. He was not selected, but received business cards from seven entertainment companies. Given Bang Si-hyuk's fame, his father advised him to try out for Big Hit Entertainment, and the choice was confirmed after seeing a video of RM performing on YouTube. He then left Busan to move to Seoul, where he continued his studies at Singu Middle School.
