It does not seem to be fully sentient, as it is incapable of understanding certain phrases (as seen in its introductory scene), but does possess enough intelligence to feel fear, and irritation. Prior to Copper 9's implosion, the Keybug presumably belonged to Nori Doorman, who used it for various things such as to request "PTO" (paid time off), to register a "torture chamber complaint", and to call the previously mentioned elevator, among others. After somehow ending up at Camp 98.7, it is found and taken in by Uzi and mistakes her for her mother, thus giving her access. It is later taken by Doll so Tessa and J can access Cabin Fever Labs, providing protection for Doll in exchange for the Keybug as part of a deal.
