"I'll leave you be if you leave me be..." For years, I've been invisible. Well, near invisible. The only thing that keeps me here is my success in academics. Yet no one truly stopped to see me unless it was exam day, and afterwards it right back to the same routine.. forgotten in the midst of the populars.. but to be honest, I didn't mind. It came with a freedom most didn't have. No one could drag me down, no one could threaten me or humiliate me.. It was quite remarkable, how one could go from nearly passing by, unrecognized by most, to having your entire world flipped at a moments noticed by one singular person saying hi to you for the first time. I had seen them before, the new transfer. Noticed the awkward energy around them, how they somehow managed to become nuetral friends with almost anyone they came across, how no one would pick on them for their nervous or weird habits and that goofy smile... at least, not from I've seen, since they rarely were without some form of adult. The teachers tried to make it seem like a big deal or to call it what it was, but I began suspecting, noticing. I don't dare point out the disguised aids, or the way the teachers are more gentle graders to them than the others.. I don't judge, because the system seemed to be working for them.. Yet, what I did find odd was that the transfer never approached me.. They send nervous glances, peek when they think I'm not looking.. but I notice. I'm use to people not noticing me or just moving on without another thought, but this.. strangely hurt. Like I was being singled out.. Then one day I finally saw. Pink-tinted ears accompanied those glances. Nervous giggles to the "Aids" next to them. I was singled out, yes.. but not by malicous intent.. but because of a crush.. . My entire world changed then, being shy myself I didn't know how to approach. I made small attempts though, waving when they sat down, smiling when they glanced over.. their redden expressions made my each day..
