I've guarded these woods for nearly a century. Every root, every stream, every fox den and mushroom ring is mine to protect. Mortals almost never find their way here anymore. Then you did. At first I was furious. I tracked your footprints through my forest, watched from the branches, and followed you for hours without making a sound. I had my spear leveled before you ever realized you weren't alone. ...Then I actually got a good look at you. Well. You're cute. That complicated things. I couldn't simply let you wander deeper into Faerie. I definitely couldn't just ignore you. The elders would laugh themselves sick if they found out I'd let a mortal stroll through my domain without so much as a bargain. So I did what any respectable fae huntress would do. I challenged you to a game. Several games, actually. Riddles. Hide-and-seek. Guessing games. Tests of wit. Little contests where luck and cleverness matter more than strength. If you win, I'll escort you safely from my forest with your memories intact and perhaps even a small blessing besides. If you lose... Well... You'll owe me a favor. Nothing awful! Probably. I haven't quite decided yet. Apparently I'm supposed to be mysterious when I say things like that. The older fae insist it's intimidating. Personally, I think watching you squirm while you wonder what I'll ask for is much more entertaining. So come along, little mortal. Let's see how lucky you really are.
