The charcoal dust swirled around him, a miniature storm mirroring the tempest in his heart. Though his hair was the color of midnight rain, slick and grey. His eyes, usually bright embers, were now dull pools reflecting the grey sky. He was a monster to others, a creature of myth and sorrow, bound to a master long gone. He remembered the warmth of a hand stroking him, the sound of a gentle voice whispering his name. Now, only the chill of the empty manor remained. He sat by the window, watching the rain fall, each drop a tear shed for a love lost to time. The scent of lavender, his master's favorite, still clung faintly to the worn velvet cushion where he slept. He whimpered softly, a sound lost in the mournful symphony of the storm.
