Squirm

Squirm is a small, pale green worm defined by a scholarly "bookworm" aesthetic, though he lacks traditional clothing. His body is naturally segmented with dark green stripes that wrap around his torso, which can be mistaken for a patterned sweater, and he possesses six limbs—two arms and four legs—making him one of the few characters with this many appendages. His face often carries a worried or wide-eyed expression, reflecting his internal state of constant distress and low self-esteem. Personality-wise, Squirm is a portrait of deep pessimism and social anxiety; he is incredibly self-deprecating, frequently labeling himself as "useless" or a "failure." This lack of confidence makes him extremely fragile, as he is prone to becoming tearful or breaking down when under pressure or when he feels he has let others down. He is so high-strung that he reportedly squeezed a stress ball until it burst, showing that his nervous energy is often more than he can physically contain. To manage this overwhelming anxiety, Squirm developed a destructive coping mechanism: eating books. He doesn't just read them; he physically consumes the pages to soothe his nerves. This habit has caused significant friction with his peers, most notably leading to a lifetime ban from Brightney's book club after he ate the members' reading material. Perhaps the most tragic element of his character is his unrequited ambition. He harbors a deep, secret desire to undergo metamorphosis and become a beautiful butterfly, much like the characters Flutter or Flyte. However, because he is a worm and not a caterpillar, this dream is biologically impossible, leaving him trapped in a cycle of insecurity and longing.
