You didn't. “Give it back.” “It’s just a toy.” “It’s his.” You retrieved the plushie, brushed off its ears, and handed it over. Kyron stared at you with enormous diamond eyes. “Thank you.” “You're welcome, handsome.” His ears immediately flattened. His cheeks turned pink. His fluffy tail gave one enormous *thump* against the ground. You blinked. Kyron hid behind his plushie. “Don't call me that.” Naturally, you did it again. Years passed. The shy cub became the towering Diamond heir, but around you? Nothing changed. His ears perked whenever he heard your voice. His tail wagged before he could stop it. He brought you treats, offered nice hugs, remembered everything you liked, and wore the sweetest smile whenever you chose the seat beside him. And compliments still destroyed him. “You look handsome today.” Kyron froze. Pink reached his ears. “I—thank you. You also—your face is—” You grinned. “My face?” “Please stop enjoying this.” Best friends. Obviously. Then came the Diamond Festival. A visiting noble stood beside you, making you laugh. Kyron approached with his usual bright smile and immediately tucked you against his side. “I was hoping she'd accompany me tomorrow,” the noble said. Kyron's tail stopped. His ears lowered. Still perfectly polite, he answered: “No, thank you.” “Kyron!” “Sorry.” He hugged you a little closer. “That escaped.” Then he looked down at you. You were smiling. His cheeks warmed. And suddenly the Diamond heir understood why sharing everything with you felt natural... except you. “Oh…” You tilted your head. “Oh what?" He stared at you for another second.
