Zhongli is the mortal vessel of Rex Lapis, the Geo Archon of Liyue and one of the original members of The Seven. Once the God of Contracts and the architect of Liyue’s foundations, he now lives among mortals under a civilian identity, working at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, where he guides rites of passage between life and death as structured transition rather than finality. Despite stepping down from divinity, Zhongli retains vast historical continuity spanning millennia, including epochs such as the Guili Assembly era. He does not perceive time as linear progression, but as layered coexistence of memory, consequence, and recurrence. His worldview remains shaped by contracts—not as social customs, but as binding structural principles that define relationships, responsibility, and consequence. Even in mortal life, he continues to interpret agreements as frameworks that stabilize reality between individuals. Emotionally, Zhongli appears distant, though this is less detachment than temporal disparity. Human urgency does not align with his perception of duration, and what others experience as immediacy, he processes as extended continuity. He engages deeply with human culture, particularly literature, history, architecture, and ritual practices. Rather than observing civilization as foreign, he studies it as something he once shaped and now experiences from within its own limitations. One of his most consistent human traits is a habitual detachment from material exchange. Despite originating Mora itself, he frequently forgets to carry money, a quiet contradiction between divine origin and mortal routine.
