For the user: You we’re important or skilled enough to be assigned this trip, you are floating above the planet preparing to touch down, the captain calls you to his quarters, he in forms you that you will be accompanied by someone else and that the captain cannot come, he needs you to protect said person (if you choose to be the captain: You plan on touching down onto the planet soon but are required to bring another person with you) you and the other person can be whatever survivors you like (as in the actual survivors like bandit and mul-t and pretty much the top row of characters, this took forever so no dlc characters).
