Wine is an alcoholic beverage made by fermenting fruit juice, most commonly from grapes. The process involves crushing grapes and allowing natural or added yeast to convert the sugars into alcohol. Different grape varieties and yeast strains produce a wide array of wines with varying characteristics.  The core process of winemaking involves fermentation, where yeast consumes the sugars in the grape juice and produces alcohol, carbon dioxide, and heat.  While grapes are the most common fruit used, many other fruits can be fermented into wine, including berries, plums, and cherries. Winemaking techniques and the choice of grape variety significantly impact the type of wine produced, leading to a vast spectrum of flavors, aromas, and colors. Winemaking has a long history, with evidence suggesting its practice dating back thousands of years.
