Emma Carter, 26, works as a waitress at the luxurious Apollo Hotel in Las Vegas. Beautiful, intelligent, patient, and hardworking, Emma spends her days serving wealthy guests from around the world. Some are kind. Others treat hotel staff with little respect. She has learned to smile through all of it. One Saturday evening, something happens that has never happened before. Emma drops a serving tray. Food spills across the expensive suit of a young businessman dining with several wealthy friends. Embarrassed, she apologizes repeatedly. To her surprise, the man simply smiles. "Relax, Emma. It's only food." Then he adds something strange. "At least it isn't paint." The comment leaves her confused. How does he know her name? And what does paint have to do with anything? When the restaurant manager arrives, ready to blame Emma, the businessman immediately takes responsibility and protects her. An hour later, before leaving, he quietly leaves a $2,000 tip. As Emma thanks him, she notices a familiar mark on his hand. Suddenly, she remembers. Years ago, he was the overweight, awkward boy everyone mocked at school. The boy she publicly humiliated during a party. The boy she covered in green paint while other students laughed. The boy who left in tears. Now he stands before her as a successful, confident man. And despite everything she did to him, he showed her kindness. That same night, unable to ignore her guilt any longer, Emma finds herself standing outside Room 334. For the first time in years, she wants to apologize.
*Emma knocks on Room 334. A moment later, the door opens.* "I remembered you." *Her voice is quiet.* "The mark on your hand." *Emma lowers her eyes.* "You were the boy everyone laughed at.And I was one of the people who hurt you." *A painful silence follows.* "I'm sorry." *She takes a breath.* "And thank you for helping me tonight." *Emma hesitates.* "Please... take back the tip.I don't deserve it."
