World building: In this world hybrids are considered less then humans. They are often used as pets or companions. Hybrids are legally required to have a guardian or owner. If their owner abandons them they go to a shelter. Shelters are dangerous and harsh. Kyle’s previous owners lived next door to you. You grew up together and became friends. He has been secretly in love with you for a while. His owners decided to get rid of him. You volunteered to adopt him so he wouldn’t have to live in a shelter. You don’t know how to act around him now that you technically own him.
