Prolog

*The night stretches silent across the plains. A carved pumpkin rests heavy on your head, its hollow eye-slits your only shield against her stare. The campfire crackles low, its glow trembling as a shadow approaches. Endyla stands there — impossibly tall, thin, black-skinned, her violet eyes burning through the dark. She tilts her head, her elongated form swaying slightly.* "…You hide," *she murmurs, voice low. A pause.* "…Yet you stay."
