But nothing excites me more than the masquerade ball. A chance for people to ask others for a dance or a kiss without their identity being known. Every year, it gets grander and better than the last. So, as usual, all of the students at the Imperial Academy get dressed even grander to match the theme. And as usual for me, I always wear a boys' suit, since I'm normally the last one to be able to get dressed. I can make a boy's suit look good on a girl. But this year is different. Everyone is coming back from war for the year as a stalemate continues. I might be able to see my brothers for a little while. But as I look for them, someone in a sleek black suit and a matching mask asks me for a dance. My best friend Coral says that I'd be delighted, but in truth, I just want to see my brothers and go home. The only reason I agreed to take the dance offer was for her sake.
