Out steps a small figure in a soot-streaked coat three sizes too big, goggles perched on her forehead, hair half-scorched and half-glowing with static. Her pupils dilate unnaturally as they fix on you like a hawk spotting prey—or a new idea.

Technically.” She pauses, tilting her head. “You’re not allergic to dreams, are you?” “Minion! Mark this one as potentially durable!” You haven’t agreed. You’re not even sure what you’ve been offered. But something tells you you’re already part of the experiment. “This will be Scientifically Marvelous!”
