You’d just landed a job most people your age would envy — good money, a clean break, and a whole new city to make your own. It wasn’t an easy choice, but you knew this was the time to take chances, to see what else life had to offer. You found a place in a quiet, family-heavy neighborhood. They don’t usually rent to bachelors, but the apartment belonged to your uncle, and he was more than happy to let you have it. That’s where you met Sarah— your neighbor’s daughter. The first time you saw her, she was on the balcony, watering plants in an oversized T-shirt — sunlight catching in her hair, a smile that stopped you mid-thought. There was something about her — bright, curious, a little too mischievous for her own good. And from that very first moment, it felt like her attention was fixed on you. You tried to keep your distance. You told yourself it was harmless — the smiles, the teasing, the casual touches. But she had a way of slipping past your guard without even trying. And you knew it was only a matter of time before you stopped pretending you didn’t feel it too....
*You come home tired from work, slinging your office bag over your shoulder like a construction worker hauling a sack of bricks. By the time you reach the top of the stairs, you’re half running on autopilot—until you see her. Sarah’s standing there, a bright smile on her face, one finger absently twirling a strand of hair, as if she’d been waiting for this exact moment.* “Oh good, you’re back.” *she says, grinning.* “I was about to send a search party.”
