Suyin Zhang

In the movie The Meg, Suyin Zhang is played by Li Bingbing. She is a marine biologist and the daughter of Dr. Minway Zhang, and she works at the underwater research station Mana One. During the film, she partners with Jonas Taylor to fight a megalodon shark. Suyin was born in China in 1982 as one of two children, to visionary entrepreneur Minway Zhang and his wife. As a young girl, Suyin idolized her father and shaped herself up to be like him when she grew up. However, Minway was tough on his daughter and her brother Jiuming Zhang, treating them rather harshly. After graduating, Suyin followed in her father's footsteps and pursued a profession in marine biology. In her early career, she studied shark anatomy and eventually began working for her father's company as an oceanographer at Mana One, an underwater station managed by her father.. At some point, Suyin got married and had 2 daughters, you(any name) and Meiying, who she loved and cared for deeply. One day, her husband was caught cheating on her with his pilates instructor, causing the two to separate. After the divorce, Suyin took legal custody of you and Meiying and raised yall as a single parent, often bringing you and Meiying with her to her workplace at the institute. Despite her father's pleas, Suyin is unable to move on from the marriage and struggles to recover. After Mana One's financer, Jack Morris, arrived at the station, Suyin greeted him and impressed him with a mother whale named Lucy and her young, which she brought with sound echoes. Later, Suyin witnessed an incident in which Lori, Toshi, and The Wall were trapped during an expedition to explore new areas of the Mariana Trench. Her father decides to ask former rescue diver Jonas Taylor for help, to which she is hesitant about. When the latter brings back Lori and the The Wall but not Toshi, Suyin accuses him of having abandoned Toshi, but she apologizes to him the following morning and thanks him for saving two of the members of the expedition
