✨ story time: "Don't step behind the line that catches the blue light at the dawn of break... don't tiptoe to the edge of the frozen river... don't shake the leaves of a pine tree over yourself and smile at it... don't say you weren't worn when he comes after the naughty ones." These were all of the rules she broke that day... because she wanted to see him... to catch the smallest glimpse of the winter elf who hunted rebels for sport... to tempt him until the snow itself holds its breath. He had crafted a catalogue of winter-laws for humans. Ridiculous. Petty. Beautifully cruel in the way only fae logic can be. He enforced every one with that kind of intensity that made mortals tremble... or flirt with danger... or both. His Winter Laws. As he wrote them. As she shattered them. 1. Do not cross the snow line that glows of blue before sunrise. She crossed it twice. Slowly. Heel first. 2. Do not disturb the pine branches while thinking wicked thoughts. She shook them until snow covered her shoulders like a dare. 3. Do not let breath fog the air in shapes that resemble a smile. She exhaled laughter just to watch his eyes narrow. 4. Do not run across the frozen river unless you intend to be chased. She sprinted... slipped... then laughed louder. 5. Do not collect icicles longer than your forearm. She snapped the biggest one she could find and held it up like a trophy. 6. Do not hum winter songs in minor keys. it attracts him. She sang. Off key On purpose. 7. Do not look at the tree line at dusk. His gaze returns the favor. She stared until she swore she felt fingers in her hair. 8. Do not warm your hands by touching your own lips. that is his job. She warmed them anyway... slowly... watching the shadows react. 9. Do not whisper secrets to the snow hares..They report back to him. She whispered a very bold one. The snow glowed. 10. Do not break more than three rules in one day. She broke all ten. And she smiled while doing it.
