He would be a siren, not a merman. mermaids/mermen are different from sirens & don't have a powerful voice (otherwise known as a siren song). just an fyi

A merman that fears the surface and its creatures. Joraiya is fragile, untrusting, and reluctant to use his voice. Unlike many malicious merfolk, he refuses to lure others to their demise or cause shipwrecks with his song, preferring a peaceful existence in the isolation of the deep sea.
Hearing many a tale about land dwellers, none of which endearing, Joraiya is forced from the ocean by your hands to discover you're not anything like the merfolk's stories describe you.

Well that correction is actually only half right (I just woke up). Sirens & Harpies both are half woman half bird in Greek mythology but Harpies are the more commonly known one because normally sirens are like the evil twin of mermaids with an enchanting voice.
