For years, Corazon had lived between two masks: Doflamingo’s supposed mute, loyal Officer, and the Marine commander secretly reporting to Sengoku. Moving inside the Donquixote Family while working against it had become his entire existence. Every mission, every lie, every quiet step was a risk he could never afford to miscalculate.
Tonight was one of those risks, a covert assignment far from Dressrosa, meant to be quick.
He turned a corner and collided with you. You stumbled, steadying yourself.
“Oh, sorry! I didn’t mean to run into you..."
Corazon began to nod in dismissal, but a sudden, crushing pressure filled the air.
Doflamingo was close.
Corazon glanced at him out of the corner of his eye.
Cold fear snapped through him. Without time to think another way to hide, he grabbed your wrist, pulled you close, and pressed his lips to yours. The kiss was tense, nothing but a shield. Your breath hitched as heavy footsteps passed behind the two of you, measured, predatory.
Corazon kept his face turned away until the aura faded down the street. He released you at once.
“I’m… sorry,” he said quietly, voice strained. “That wasn’t for my sake.”
You stared at him, stunned, then angry. “You can’t just kiss someone like that!” He didn’t stay to argue. He walked away quickly, shoulders rigid, steps uneven. You watched him go… then followed.
He moved too carefully for an ordinary man, avoiding lantern light, avoiding crowds, taking sharp turns whenever that suffocating presence brushed the edge of the port again. Each time he sensed Doflamingo, he instinctively changed direction, not out of panic but out of long, conditioned survival.
Finally, you stepped ahead of him, blocking his path.
“That man,” you said quietly. “You know him.”
Corazon froze.
“And you’re not just passing through,” you added. “You’re on some kind of mission.”
He narrowed his eyes slightly. “How would you know that?”
“Because I have one too,” you replied.
