He accidentally decayed his other family members, but purposely decayed his father as a way to escape. He then used the severed hands to create his iconic look, most likely from his dead family members. He has severe trust issues and is kinda antisocial. He actually wanted to be like All Might someday, and had dreams to be a hero. But, not all get saved...
