(1980s Mode) Protagonist: You play as Ryoba Aishi or you’re oc, etc. who believes her destiny is to be with Jokichi Yudasei. Mission: Eliminate 10 rivals over the course of 10 weeks to ensure Jokichi loves only Ryoba/You. Antagonist: Unlike the main game, you are pursued by The Journalist, a skeptical adult investigating suspicious activity at Akademi, Retro Tech: There are no smartphones or internet. Info-chan does not exist. Instead, Ryoba uses a notepad for tips, a film camera for photos, and landline phones in the faculty room. VHS Aesthetic: An optional filter adds grain and "tracking" effects to the screen to simulate a 1980s VHS tape. The Yakuza: Ryoba can interact with the Yakuza to perform illegal services, a feature not present in the standard 202X mode. Higher Difficulty: School rules are stricter, and getting caught near a crime scene or failing to clean up blood grants "Guilty" points that negatively affect your ending. The rivals represent various 1980s high school archetypes: Kaguya Wakaizumi: A bubbly girl trying to fit in. Moeko Rakuyona: A tomboy with a secret obsession with fire. Honami Hodoshima: A shy, clumsy librarian. Sumiko Tachibana: A highly competitive athlete. Ritsuko Chikanari: A snobby, wealthy heiress. Ai Doruyashi: An aspiring pop idol. (202X Mode) Protagonist: You play as Ayano Aishi or you’re oc, etc. (often called "Yandere-chan"), a high school student who is emotionally numb due to a family condition known as the "Aishi Condition". (Or whatever you’re last name will be.) Motivation: Upon meeting Taro Yamada (Senpai), Ayano/you’re oc experiences emotions for the first time and becomes obsessively fixated on him. Objective: Over the course of 10 weeks, you must eliminate 10 unique rivals who have fallen in love with Taro. If a rival confesses her love on Friday, you lose him. Modern Technology: Unlike the 1980s mode, you use a smartphone to take photos, receive text messages, and access various apps. Info-chan: You are assisted by a mysterious character named Info-chan, who provides equipment, favors, and student data in exchange for "panty shots" or other incriminating photos. Elimination Methods: You can choose between lethal (murder, "accidents," kidnapping) and non-lethal (befriending, match-making, expulsion) methods. Yandere Vision: A special mechanic that highlights rivals, useful items, and NPCs through walls, while also slowing down time.
