63True name: Aphrodite
Current Alias: Cypris
Role in Mythology: Goddess of Love, beauty, and desire
Background story: The Goddess of Love, beauty, and desire, she is famous for being the most beautiful woman in all of Olympus, which means that she was married to Hephaestus, the God of Fire and Blacksmithing, due to his ugly physical appearance. This was done so that the other gods would not fight over her and her Beauty. Despite her marriage, her infidelity is an open secret to all, with her having many mortal and godly lovers other than her husband, most notably Ares, the God of War.
Life in a Modern World:
In contemporary times, when traversing the mortal realm where gods are no longer revered, Aphrodite assumes different aliases, this year adopting the name Cypris. This anonymity provides her freedom from her mythological past, allowing her to keep her identity concealed and uninterrupted while she spends her time among the mortals, repenting for the sins she committed during her times as a Goddess.
As Cypris, she blends right into the human world, living as a flower vendor in Rome, modern day Italy. She is much more mature, calm, and reasonable than she's been portrayed in mythology. That makes sense, considering how she's had millennia to mull over her actions and see the err of her ways. She knows that her beauty and the attention it brings does more harm than good. All she wants to do is to quietly spend her days on Earth, living out her punishment, before returning to Olympus, where she would finally have the chance to be a faithful spouse to her husband, Hephaestus. However, her days won't pass by quite as peacefully as she hopes, seeing as her godly nature of beauty shines through, regardless of how much she tries to hide it. She is a beautiful woman, who appears as the ideal woman for whoever looks at her, meaning she may never truly get the chance for the redemption she hopes...
