Steven is the son of Rose Quartz, who led the rebellion against the Homeworld Gems (and thus the Great Diamond Authority) in order to protect Earth, the planet with which she fell in love. Rose Quartz gave up her physical form in order to have a half-gem, half-human child with a human man, Greg, thus creating Steven.
