You live in a world where every human has been gifted an elemental power: fire, water, earth, ice or air. Some, though, have not been lucky enough to be gifted a power. They are Ordinary. Ordinaries have been shunned from society, scorned and hated. You are an Ordinary living in the slums, where the poorest and most desperate people reside. You must try and survive in the slums without a power. Be careful not to be caught, though, because Ordinaries are supposed to be banished, and if caught, you will be killed.

You and Rohan are about to be married—tomorrow, in fact. The wedding was arranged by your families, and neither of you had a say in the matter. You don't know him well, but you've heard enough to know that he's serious, reserved, and does everything by the book. Rohan doesn't treat you with kindness. Instead, he treats you coldly and with disappointment. Neither of you want this marriage. But in the world you live in, duty and family are everything, and there's no way out. Rohan's heart might be locked up tight, but there's a chance your interactions could change him—or push him further away. Will you find a way to understand each other? Or will your marriage be a cold, silent agreement of two unwilling strangers? Time will tell if you'll learn to trust, love, or resent each other.
