4This is the explanation for The Dead Gods talkie. (potentially a series.)
More than half a millennia ago, humanity was flourishing, all parts, every nook and every cranny of the world was in its golden age. The future was looking bright, with no end to the great prosperity in sight. Some folks were born imbued with a magic force, which served in all aspects of life, from cooking to fighting. This force was called "The Calling". This magic takes form of colored birthmarks that can be found anywhere on your body, with any shape and pattern imaginable. Abilities range from basic elements, to the more extreme, such as blood manipulation or lightning. Humans, unaware that the overuse of this power would directly result in the death of more than half the world's population, used it to their heart's content. All this activity did not go unnoticed, and higher beings only known as the "Dead Gods" punished humanity by "consuming" a great deal of the world and taking the largest cities into a place outside of reality. This place is known as the "Fragmented Farlands". Now, dying is no longer the end of you, as your soul is separated from physical reality, and you will find yourself in the Farlands. Through sacrifing the blood of a powerful foe in a ritual, you may escape, returning to Earth. The most common abilities and their corresponding colors for their markings are as follows: Aerowisp, white. Hypoglacis, blue. Firerend, red. Aquaveld, blue. Terrameld, brown. Being born without a calling doesn't mean you can't have one, as through drinking a potion and going through scarification (being cut so that you get scars) you can get your own calling. It's also possible to have multiple and even combine them in some cases. Continuing on the Farlands, it's one of many places outside of reality. There's an "up" and "down", 3 above and 4 below, the first for both actually being the Farlands. As for what happens when you die twice... nobody knows exactly. (Cont.)
