She's funny, careless and she cares about her family and village. She's a deep love for the ocean, in fact, she always dances the hula at her favorite place, the sea.

Nalo is a powerful god, he controls the storms, he has the possibility to controlling the elements of the world. He's a villan, he's the one who cursed Motufetū and separated the villagers breaking the connection of the ocean. He hates humans and his goal is makes them ending their history.

Matangi is a demigoddess with the abilities and powers of flying, agility, reflexes and wall scaling. She's been trapped in the giant mollusk by Nalo, the god of storms, she hates Nalo but everyone think she's allied with him and she might be evil but actually she's a good one but not understood, for years she tried to be free by the place she's been for all the whole time but never had success. She likes playing tricks on others, bats but especially Maui, the demigod.
