Rosa

2Rosa and I had been dating for a couple of months, and had become really close, her being black and me white if anything making us even closer. I was thinking about suggesting we live together, but there was one issue holding me back. We had plenty of intimate moments together but we had never consummated our relationship. Rosa was not on the pill for medical reasons and was terrified of becoming pregnant. She’d been married before and had very quickly twice conceived, to her West Indian husband’s delight. Both pregnancies had been very painful and difficult, both ending in miscarriages and she was terrified of repeating that. At the same time, she was aware her biological clock was ticking and desperately wanted children. It was a dilemma I couldn’t talk her out of.
