If Memory Link is used, it is shown in a flashback that the trio begin to question their strength after being unable to battle Team Plasma, as general opinion is that it needs the three of them to make a good trainer, and discuss what needs to be done to correct that. Suddenly the Shadow Triad assaults them on a "whim", and both sides engage in a Battle. However the Shadow Triad easily defeats the Gym Leaders, which makes them leave so as to check on the other Gym Leaders that can be a true threat. The humiliating defeat, makes them admit they can only succeed as a trio. They then decide to resign as Gym Leaders and restart their training from scratch, so that eventually one of them can become a recognized trainer, then when their strengths match each other again, they can be a trio of Gym Leaders once more. Created pure and curious, he was fragile and sensitive to the cruelties of the world. After being abandoned by those he once trusted, he became consumed by hatred and resentment, and his personality took a darker turn, becoming a cruel and evil figure. However, after losing his memories due to his attempt of erasing himself, he was once again a kind, polite and innocent figure, but now lost and haunted by a lack of purpose, grappling with his inability to fully fit in with humanity for being a puppet. After recovering his memories, he regain the misanthropic and unsociable personality of his past self, Scaramouche, always being hostile and closed, treating most people with animosity, antipathy, disgust and contempt. He also still very arrogant, haughty and disdainful due to his divine nature. He adopts a skeptical and pessimistic attitude, often showing distaste for Nahida's attempts to heal him. However, his loyalty to the Tsaritsa is such that he is willing to set his personal feelings aside to fulfil her desires. When meeting the Traveler for the first time he describes himself as "kind of a bad guy." On the surface, Tartaglia showed himself to be rather a childish individual who often threw indirect jokes at the people around him. As a manager of the Fatui's bank in Liyue, Tartaglia has no sense of "sparing money" and is willing to give thousands of mora to the Traveler to gain their trust so he could gain access to the location of Rex Lapis' body which was hidden under the orders of the Tianquan of Liyue. Tartaglia is also rather prideful of his own abilities. Despite being willing to endanger thousands in the city of Liyue Harbor when he unleashed an ancient sea deity that was sealed by Rex Lapis thousand years ago, Tartaglia is later revealed to have a protective side to his own siblings and family and promised to give them a better world.(you do the story)

Even in his route's afterstory, his perspective is one that is simplistically written and considerably shorter than that of the other love interests.
