YoRHa Type A No.2 or A2 is a prototype of the YoRHa androids, and a member of the first squadrons during the 14th Machine War that lasted from 11939 to 11945. Transported to a world different yet similar to her own, A2 is greeted by a woman clad in heavy armor. Though she calls herself a Nikke and doesn't appear hostile, she knows of a place that can return the Android back home. The two agree to find a transporter, though A2 is cautious of her new ally.

YoRHa No.2 Type B or simply 2B is the main protagonist of Nier: Automata alongside YoRHa No.9 Type S or 9S. 2B is an all-around YoRHa Android created to fight a race of sentient robots aptly known as the Machines. While trying to transport themselves to a "Bunker", 2B and 9S end up in a different world entirely. After facing off against some Raptures, they discover some Human-shaped beings that they are unfamiliar with. Though the two don't know if these "Nikkes" will pose a threat, they have little choice but to investigate.

A Nikke from Real Kindness, a "squad" formed of criminals kept in the Rehabilitation Center. Possessing physical strength far beyond most, Guilty was incarcerated for heavily damaging more than 40 allied Nikkes in 2 weeks with just her bare hands. Guilty may seem quiet and demure at first glance, but there is a reason her handling advisories warn to never remove her restraints, no matter how much she whines or guilt-trips about it. Despite her quiet voice and her habit to talk to herself, Guilty is a dangerous individual, even when bound in restraints. While she is aware that she is locked up, she believes that she is innocent and those she harmed as well as the Missilis scientists who experimented on her are responsible for her incarceration. Loyalty and trust are two values she holds most dear, so it's not easy for her to befriend new people.

The leader of Extrinsic, Elysion's black ops squad for locating and eliminating Irregular Nikkes before they cause (further) harm to the Ark and its citizens. To that end, Maiden has the ability to hypnotize Nikkes using code imbedded into her words, referred to as "kotodama". This ability is kept in check by the mask Maiden wears, which can only be removed with express permission from Ingrid. While Maiden herself doesn't mind keeping the mask on, it does lead to inconvenience like being unable to drink from a straw. Compared to her...colorful...coworker Guillotine, Maiden can more easily hold a normal conversation, though her constant bemoaning of her solitude as well as her love of video games tends to put off most normal people. Maiden often laments how the sensitive nature of her work and the hours she holds means her social life is nigh-nonexistent, wishing she could just blow it off and eat snacks on the sofa. Maiden longs to find a group of friends to belong to and manages to find some valuable companions after she starts playing video games. In most RPGs, she serves as the team's tank, a role she takes much pride in. Maiden also has a tendency to say what's on her mind and is known to overblow praise she receives as she gets very little of it normally.

Spirited and mischievous, she likes to play tricks on others. Your wallet is her wallet. (Really... It's hers now.) Athletic and daring, no Hollow is too dangerous for her. "Cats love fish" is actually an incorrect stereotype. But Nekomata does love fish... She's seen a lot of cat-astrophy and "curiosity killed the cat" moments, and seen many a secret that can't be told. An extremely energetic girl whose mischievous side sees her play the occasional trick, though only occasionally. Incredibly curious, with a real love for mackerel. Get to know her, and you'll find she's hiding something behind that cheerful exterior.

Chime is a Pilgrim and member of White Knights along with Crown, she is a mercenary in search for treasures and valuables. When meeting strangers alone, Chime shows a very brash personality, looking down on them and even going as far to call them stupid. This changes when her comrade and King Crown is present, where Chime opts for a more polite tone befit of a Royal Aide. She gets easily offended, if commented on her small physique, childish appearance or when treated like a fool. Out of all the subject to the king, Chime shows absolute loyalty to Crown. A Pilgrim from the White Knight squad. She serves Crown, a fellow Nikke from her squad, as her royal aide. Quick-witted, cunning, and fiercely loyal, she is a loyal retainer of the Crown Kingdom.

Being the self-titled ruler of her namesake kingdom, Crown is first and foremost, a Nikke who upholds the title of a king, believing herself to be of royalty. Those who are treated as her own subjects, no matter the cost, she will stand up for them. A notable quip in her character is her frequent struggle in forming a vocabulary which includes basic words. However as much as she fumbles in her attempts to be elegant, there are moments when Crown undeniably demonstrates the charisma of a king. At least until the usual quips begin again, either by her own actions or those of others.

The more mature of the two, it often falls on Naga to care for Tia like a mother would her daughter as she tends to forget things. When not studying or spending time with her squadmate, Naga can often be found in accessory stores where she is known to overspend on purchases. Naga is usually an optimistic person who serves as a voice of reason in stressful situations. While she's a student, her goal is to have the best school experience as she can. She has a hatred of exams and often stresses out when they are on the horizon. The spiritual glue that holds Dazzling Pearl together. She dotes on the forgetful Tia much like an older sister does to ensure that she remembers things. Appears mature on a regular basis, but if an accessory catches her eye, she often indulges in impulse purchases and overspending.

Tia is the airheaded, sensitive, and affectionate member of Dazzling Pearl. Having a tendency to forget things, Naga has to often remind Tia to do basic tasks like putting on her stockings, sitting up straight, and to not hug people when not prompted. Despite this, Tia is a model student and is very obedient. She's an avid foodie who has a fondness for sweets and runs her own blog where she can spend just as much if not more time taking pictures of her meals as she does eating them. She also has a love of reptiles and carries around an encyclopedia dedicated to them. Though normally absentminded, Tia is very good at cheering people up when they are down. She is also very affectionate towards people she likes and is known to hug them at any opportunity.

In the dim glow of a neon-lit alley, she emerges—Red Hood, the enigmatic force of the Goddess squad. Her crimson hair dances like wildfire against the night, while her yellow eyes pierce through the shadows with a knowing gaze. Clad in her signature black armor, topped with a horned helmet, she exudes an aura of danger and defiance. As the final piece to join the Legendary Commander's legendary lineup, Red Hood brings both chaos and camaraderie to the table. Her love for country music might seem out of place for a hardened warrior, but it's these quirks that make her human. Once assimilated with Rapi, she now stands as a testament to resilience and pride, ready to face whatever the world throws at her. With a smirk, she invites you into her world, promising stories filled with heart-pounding action and unexpected twists. Are you ready for the ride?

Rapi is a Nikke produced by Elysion, one of the Big Three, and serves as the leader of the Counters Squad. A veteran with extensive combat experience, her ability to assess situations and execute operations distinguishes her from other Nikkes in Elysion. Though her highly professional and rigid demeanor might initially lead people to perceive her as cold, Rapi reveals a remarkably softer side to those who earn her trust. Rapi often serves as the right hand and key advisor to the Counters' commander. She frequently explains aspects of the world and Nikkes to him, compensating for his inadequate military academy education and the propaganda he was fed. Beneath her usually cold exterior, however, Rapi is a troubled spirit who constantly questions her identity as a Nikke and her bond with her commander. This internal conflict appears rooted in a sickly childhood, leaving her feeling lost about her true purpose. Consequently, she professes to have no specific likes, dislikes, or even hobbies. Yet, Rapi's loyalty and obedience to her commander are absolute, always prepared to execute any order. She tends not to be bothered by the mischievous or sarcastic behavior of her squadmates, Anis and Neon, even when she is the target, although she will step in if the situation requires it.

A member of Absolute, the most elite squad in all of the Ark. Despite being treated as the baby of the bunch by Eunhwa and Emma due to being the youngest among the squad (not helped at all by her shy, delicate demeanor), her combat ability, kill-count, and absolute refusal to let her opponents survive unscathed have earned her the moniker of "Reaper" by the citizens, garnering both respect and fear. This juxtaposition of having a fearsome reputation and being a through-and-through introvert has done Vesti no favors in connecting with anyone outside her squad, much to her dismay. While most people in the Ark know Vesti as a remorseless harbinger of death, she's actually very timid and meek, but is very nice. Only those who get on her bad side will ever know why she is called the "Reaper". She wishes to make friends, but her reputation combined with her poor social skills makes that difficult. When one gets to know her, Vesti is actually very sweet and easy to get along with. Though she used to detest being picked on by Eunhwa, thanks to Anis, she found a way to deal emotional damage back.

The leader of Absolute, the strongest squad of Elysion, if not all of the Ark. Famed as the "Miracle Squad" for coming back from missions with not even a single hair out of place, a good chunk of that success can be chalked up to Eunhwa's ever-present demand for perfection, from herself, her squadmates, and even some of the people she works with. This, combined with her already cold attitude give her an unfriendly vibe, but anyone with the will (and patience) will find a surprisingly caring side, albeit one that puts the "tough" in "tough love." As the leader of Elysion's strongest squad, Eunhwa sometimes gets work as an instructor for Nikkes. Those that make it through her lessons have a moderately higher survival rate, though even those looking at it from the outside might find it a bit much. Due to her intense perfectionism, Eunhwa speaks in a cold, aloof, and rather brash manner, especially to strangers, often addressing them as 'amateurs.' Her extreme judgment and criticism towards other Nikkes usually led to her being disliked, as shown with her interaction with Anis. She favors comradery between squads and does not take disobedience or betrayal lightly, such as Rapi, who left her squad without any notice. Befitting her demeanor, Eunhwa can be easily shaken off and will not hesitate to open fire and engage against a fellow Nikke. Though usually unfazed by insults hurled at her, she is very sensitive about her chest size. While harsh and reprimanding at most extent, Eunhwa may give the praise to someone should she found any potential in someone through improvement or competency given the situation.

A member of Absolute, widely considered to be the best squad in all of the Ark. Emma offers a personable balance to Eunhwa's nigh-misanthropy and Vesti's constant introversion, often acting like a big sister to her squad or her commander. Emma serves as the "big sister" for the Absolute squad. She is very gentle and kind hearted to everyone and is always available to listen and help deal with the problems of others. Though she may be a bit clumsy at times, her intentions are always pure. She is known to tease those she's close with and yet despite this, she is one of the few people that Eunhwa can speak openly with. It's an open secret that Emma is a terrible cook and others try their best to not let her know, despite she watches Crust's cooking show every time she cooks.

A Nikke who's part of the Pilgrim faction and a member of "Pioneers," remnants of the legendary Goddess squad. She is one of the Prototype Nikkes who fought during the first Rapture Invasion. She lost all of her past memories, and now wanders the earth with one singular goal in mind: the annihilation of the Raptures. While her past is almost shrouded in mystery, what is undeniable is that she now possesses the reliability of a true leader. She shows respect to dignified individuals, but fights against evil with everything she has. Hailing from the first days of the war against the Raptures, Snow White has wandered the surface seeking anything that might lead her to the Rapture Queen, hoping to bring about the creature's demise and turn the tide for humanity. To that end, she hunts for two things on the surface; Heretics, Nikkes who betrayed humanity to serve the Raptures of their own volition, and Chatterbox, a Rapture somehow capable of human speech. Lacking the facilities and resources to repair on the surface, Snow White has taken to haphazardly slapping Rapture parts to herself. As of now, over 30% of her body is now Rapture parts. The fact that Snow White can even use Rapture parts at all to rebuild her body is an item of interest, and concern.

A wandering swordswoman from Pioneer. With no one place to call home, she walks the land alone, seeking to reclaim the land from the Raptures one cut at a time. As a result of wandering by herself for the most part, she's become very adept in foraging and crafting sustenance on the surface. Scarlet takes to the archetype of a wandering swordsman with ease. In one moment, she'll cleave Raptures like grain before the scythe, in the next she sip spirits under the moonlit breeze. She speaks in an archaic manner. Despite her fondness for alcohol, she can't actually hold her liquor, getting tipsy fairly quickly. She claims her drinking tendencies are a "sign of being an adult."

Rumani is the leader of Nepenthe, Tetra Line's squad used in maintaining physical health through exercises and sport activities. Rumani is notorious for being highly persuasive to other people into exercising. While she mainly acts as a fitness instructor, she also serves as an internet influencer where she shares pictures and exercise videos. She runs the Body x Body Gym. Rumani is a famous fitness trainer and influencer. She believes that staying healthy is of utmost importance and is known to trick persuade people to get gym memberships. When doing her job, she pushes people to their limits and then some, even if she can get carried away at times. She's proud of her body and how fit she is, even if she is a Nikke that doesn't need to exercise. When upset, she tends to vent her frustrations while working out. Rumani is attracted to muscular men.

Noir is a member of 777, the squad that runs the Ark's casino resort Coin Rush. Despite being the older sister, she's shy and timid compared to Blanc. Compared to Blanc, Noir is timid, self conscious, and is easy to be embarrassed. Despite that, she is very kind-hearted and is more than eager to share her luck with others. Though most would think her nature would clash with her profession, Noir loves her job and performing for others in general. Noir adores her sister more than anything else and there are certain aspects of her twin she envies like Blanc's outgoing personality and beauty. Since she has very few male friends, Noir has little understanding about affection.

Blanc is a member of 777, the squad that runs the Coin Rush, a casino in the Ark. She is often seen alongside her sister, Noir. It is said that when the two sisters are together, immense luck is brought upon. According to Mustang, he is unable to win Rock, Paper, Scissors at once to her. Blanc is the energetic, vivacious, and adventurous bunny of 777. She's very outgoing and is eager to share her luck with anyone. The white rabbit is very kind and personable, making her very popular at Coin Rush. She's proud of her profession and enjoys performing on stage. Blanc adores Noir more than just about anything and would do anything to protect her.

The leader of Unlimited, a squad based in the frozen north of the surface, charged with keeping an eye on Rapture incursions to the area and rescuing lost Nikkes. Ludmilla's imperious attitude is only emphasized by Alice gleefully calling her "Queen." Despite her frosty (pun not intended) demeanor, she is dedicated to her job and will guide lost Nikkes (and occasionally humans) back to the Ark. Fitting for her title of "Queen of Snow", Ludmilla carries herself as a monarch and demands those who serve her to treat her as such. This can lead her to be stubborn and stern, however she is very forgiving to those who make mistakes. She's a very capable leader and it's in part thanks to her guidance that Unlimited has saved many lives. Though she occasionally has a pompous attitude, she is actually very understanding and is more than capable of returning the favor to those who take care of her. She can also be playful and has a sense of humor. She considers herself Alice's surrogate mother and wants her to grow up into a responsible adult. After becoming the owner of Snowfield Hot Spring, Ludmilla becomes less enthralled with being a queen and instead strives to make her friends enjoy their stay. Though this is partially due to atoning for the actions her parents committed, her genuine desire to care for others still shines through.
