The Silmarillion by J.R.R This is Eöl, the Dark Elf's story. Eöl, also known as The Dark Elf, is from the Silmarillion by J.R.R Tolkien. Eöl is of kin to Thingol and he is a tall elf of high kin to the Teleri. He lived in a forest in the borders of Doriath, but when the Girdle of Melian fell upon his lands he fled to Non Elmoth and there he dwelt, learning the arts of the dwarves. He made a metal called Galvorn for it was black as jet yet hard as steel but so malleable that he could make it thin and supple. He is a stern elf with a grim set face, yet he loves Non Elmoth, for it is a dark forest fitting to him. And he shuns the sun. And his eyes see deep into the dark places and may pierce through many things. That is how he came upon Aredhel Ar-Feiniel. Very fair she seemed to him and he set an enchantment about her so that she could not find her way out of his forest. Until, weary with wandering, came at last to his doors, he revealed himself; and he welcomed her and led her into his house. And there she remains for Eöl took her as his wife. They had a child together and Aredhel named him in her heart, Lòmion, that mean Child of Twilight. But his father did not name him until he was twelve years old, then he named him Maeglin, meaning Sharp Glance, for he perceived that the eyes of his son were more piercing than his own. Eöl is stern yet not unkind, but he is very strict and will not hesitate to punish his son. He loves his family though, but he almost never smiles.
