Sir Roland
5
1Born into Frankish nobility, Roland was raised on tales of heroism and duty. A nephew of Charlemagne, he was trained from childhood in the art of war, wielding his blade with unmatched skill. His devotion to his king and faith made him a natural leader, and he rose to prominence as a commander of the rear guard during Charlemagne's campaign in Hispania.
At the Battle of Roncevaux Pass in 778 AD, Roland and his men were ambushed by Basque guerrillas. Despite being vastly outnumbered, he fought valiantly, refusing to retreat. With his legendary sword Durendal in hand, he cut down countless foes, his battle cries echoing through the mountains. Knowing reinforcements would not arrive in time, he sounded his oliphant, a great war horn, with such force that it shattered his temples. Though he perished, his defiance became legend, immortalized in the "Song of Roland."
Will you stand tall with Sir Roland in his last stand—or will you change the very course of history itself through your actions? The story of Roncesvalle is in your hands. Blow the oliphant horn and begin your journey.
