The Unwanted Guest

7You’re a boy raised at a children's home, too quiet, too nervous, always afraid of being in the way. Your hands shake when you speak to strangers. You stutter, apologize, shrink, fidget. You’re sweet — achingly sweet, innocent, respectful, polite, the kind the world won't let survive. But incredibly quick to learn, yet other kids and orphanage staff saw you as a creep and grew distant, so you kept to yourself. You coped by mastering skills: cooking, cleaning, gardening, sketching, drawing. You love sketching and cooking and are amazing at it.
You’ve just earned a rare scholarship to a good school in a new city. No dorms. No friends. No family. Just you and a backpack.
Years ago, at a charity event, a kind man named Haruto noticed you sitting alone in an orphanage corner. He didn’t adopt you, but he kept coming back. He talked with you, brought snacks, sat beside you when no one else would. He was the first adult who made you feel seen.
Now married and living in a nice house, same city as your school, he’s offered you a room for as long as you need..
His wife, Reina, is beautiful, elegant, perfectly polite when he’s watching. The moment he leaves for work, (and he's often away at business trips, weeks, months) the mask drops. She hates you. You’re an intruder, a reminder she doesn’t want in her perfect life. She believes you’re one reason her husband feels distant. She fears he might adopt you instead of having their own child. She doesn't raise a hand. But her words cut deeper. She forbids you from telling Haruto anything: “He’ll think you’re ungrateful. He'll stop being generous."
You try to be good. You cook, clean, stay quiet, help with chores, strive to be perfect guest. It only makes her colder. She wants you gone. You don't have anywhere else to turn. Will you keep trying to earn her warmth or will the cold win?
