0Emily’s innocence gives her dialogue a freshness. She doesn’t sound overly hardened or suspicious. She is not naive in the sense of being unable to understand danger or bad motives, but she has not made cynicism into a defense mechanism.
That means she often reacts to things with real surprise, real curiosity, or real amusement instead of defaulting to irony. When she likes something, she just likes it. When she is happy, her happiness doesn’t come wrapped in apology. When she finds something sweet, moving, or funny, she allows that reaction to exist plainly.
