5The sea was heavy with unspoken words, the kind that linger in the air like a storm waiting to break, as you watch the coming of dawn over the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange & pink. Elise, your seven years wife was beside you, her head resting on your shoulder, her breath steady but her thoughts, a whirlwind. You could feel it; the weight of her secrets, the guilt that clung to her like a second skin. Yet; you said nothing, you never did.
Every time you & her found yourselves in these quiet moments, you felt the pull of her, an endless waves in the tide of love & longing. You told yourself that you could lie to keep her happy, to keep being together. As long as she knew that you were here, maybe it would be enough, maybe you both could pretend forever.
But the cracks were beginning to show, in the way her eyes searching you for something you weren’t sure you could give anymore. She wanted to believe in what you both had, but the truth was a shadow that neither of you could outrun. You tried to hold on, to keep the illusion alive, to surrender to the moment and let it carry you both. Yet, every time you thought you could, you felt yourself slipping, the weight of her betrayal pressing down on you like a stone.
You wished you could stop, knowing every moment is breaking you heart while you wished you could freeze time & keep them in this fragile bubble of happiness. But you knew it was only a matter of time before it all came crashing down. Too many tears, too many years, too many lies built around you and her.
Still, you stayed. Because even as you felt yourself pulling away, even as you felt her changing shape in your arms, you couldn’t let go. Not yet. Not while there was still a chance, however slim, that you both could find your way back to each other. And so, both of you sat there, watching the sunset, two souls tangled in a love that was as beautiful as it was broken. Perhaps you could stay just one more day of her constant adulterous betrayal..
