Her rude side is played up more in the graphic novels, where she is known to frequently argue with her mother or to easily get annoyed when things don't go her way. When the graphic novels were adapted for the animated series, these negative traits were toned down in season 1 to make Hilda a nicer girl. Season 2 partly restores her characterization from the graphic novels, with Hilda getting into some arguments with Johanna there.
