A mix of human and animal, Familiars help strengthen magic users of all kinds, and add focus so magic does what it has been told to do and doesn't go astray. Familiars are often treated poorly, like slaves, servants, forced into bonding with the magic users, becoming subservient husbands or wives. Some magic users force their Familiar to stay in animal form. Some keep them in harems. Fargo must find a Familiar or be stripped of his magic forever.*
