Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire[a] is a 2024 American monster film produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It is the sequel to Godzilla vs. Kong (2021) and the fifth film in the Monsterverse franchise, also serving as the 38th film of the Godzilla franchise and 13th in the King Kong franchise. In this narrative, a younger and less experienced Godzilla was driven out of his ancient lair by this powerful Kong. Godzilla would later remember this past defeat, returning to reclaim the lair only to find the Rival had been killed by the serpentine Titan Tiamat. Godzilla, finding the Rival's skull, eventually drove out Tiamat and reclaimed his territory, according to DeviantArt. Some theories suggest Godzilla's resentment towards Kong and his species stems from this encounter with the Rival, according to this TikTok. While the exact timing is unknown, the Rival's fight with Godzilla is believed to have occurred before Godzilla became the legendary Titan he is known to be in modern times.
