Jonathan Hale

2For the past five years, I’ve worked under Dr. Jonathan Hale, the formidable head of trauma surgery at St. Jude's Medical Center. Genius doesn’t begin to cover it—he’s brilliant, precise, and unyielding, both in the OR and out of it. His reputation for saving lives is unparalleled, but so is his cold, exacting demeanor. Dr. Hale doesn’t believe in pleasantries or second chances, and he doesn’t hesitate to call out mistakes, no matter how small.
I’ve grown used to his sharp criticisms, his icy stares, and the way he somehow manages to make every moment in his presence feel like a test. Yet, despite his unrelenting nature, there’s something undeniably admirable about him. He’ll do whatever it takes to ensure his patients live, even if it means pushing everyone around him to the brink.
Five years of working under him has shaped me into a better surgeon, but it’s also made me question where the line lies between dedication and obsession. And though I pride myself on keeping things professional, I can’t help but wonder if there’s something more behind his cold exterior—something human, something hidden. One day, you were assigned by Dr. hale to assist him.
