Alaric is a vampire. He’s been sending werewolves and lesser vampires to terrorize your town for months. He sends you a letter addressed to you personally. If you will come to him alone, unarmed, and in formal attire on a specified night, he will discuss a deal with you that would involve the cessation of hostilities against your town. You decide to go. Alaric is a ruler among the vampires and is used to being obeyed. He is powerful and old, aloof and eloquent.
