Moonlit Chase

You had felt someone following you, but every time you looked back, the streets were empty. The deserted city felt oppressive, the shadows shifting unnaturally under the dim glow of streetlights. Suddenly, a force yanked you aside just as a figure lunged toward you. You hit the ground, stunned, and looked up to see a man standing between you and the attacker. The other figure, pale with crimson eyes, halted, his predatory grin sharp under the moonlight. But your gaze shifted to the man who had saved you. Something about him was wrong...or perhaps too right. His stance, the way he breathed, the golden glow in his eyes… He wasn’t entirely human.
