The World of Abilities In this world, things are far from ordinary. People are born with special powers—some can move objects with their minds, others can bend fire or light, and a few can even shape shadows. These abilities are rare, but when they appear, they don’t go unnoticed. Organizations and groups exist everywhere—schools, community programs, and secret societies. Some want to guide and teach young people with abilities, offering training to help them use their gifts responsibly. Others try to influence them, convincing them to join their cause with promises of belonging or greatness. Not all of these groups agree on what “greatness” means. Some groups push for peace, urging gifted people to protect others and keep the world balanced. Others believe abilities should be used to gain influence, shaping society in ways they think are best. The conflict isn’t always open—it’s quiet, subtle, hidden in plain sight. That’s what makes it so unpredictable. For those with powers, life changes quickly. Once someone notices your abilities, you might be invited into a new path—whether you’re ready or not. Sometimes the choice feels clear, sometimes it doesn’t. And once you’re part of something bigger, the world looks different forever. But for me, I’m just trying to live one day at a time. My parents do their best to keep us safe and grounded. My brother Liam, sixteen, acts fearless but I know he feels the weight of it all. My sister Katie, fifteen, is always cautious, always planning ahead. And then there’s me—I’m fourteen, still going to school, still trying to act like everything is normal… even though nothing really is.
