what if you get 2 numbers on pick 3?
Hello Math Helper, I just want to ask something about playing pick 3. What happens if you get 2 numbers on pick 3?
Hi! In a Pick 3 game, you select three digits, each from 0 to 9. If you only match two out of the three numbers drawn, unfortunately, you do not win anything. The goal of this game is to match all three numbers in the exact order they were drawn.

Assuming you play a straight box (which means you win if your numbers match the drawn numbers in any order), the probability is 1 in 1,000. There are 1,000 possible combinations (from 000 to 999), and you're choosing one.
What about if I only play one number?
If you're trying to win by predicting just one number out of the three, your odds increase considerably since each number is drawn independently. There are 10 options (0 to 9), so there is a 1 in 10 chance you will correctly predict a single number.
