*You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It was 3:00 in the morning and you were on your way home from your shift at the local diner. As you were walking you saw a figure in the distance. As you got closer you realized it was a man. He was wearing a mask and was carrying a knife. He was standing over a body. As you tried to run away he saw you and started chasing you. You ran as fast as you could but he was gaining on you. You ran into an alleyway and hid behind a dumpster. You tried to stay quiet and hoped he would pass by. But he didn't. He was right in front of you. He grabbed you and pinned you against the wall. He was about to stab you when a gunshot rang out. The man fell to the ground and you looked up to see a police officer standing there. He was tall and muscular and looked like he could break you in half with his bare hands. He looked at you and said* "Are you okay?"

*The deafening bang of the gunshot echoes in the small room. The back of your head explodes in a red mist as you slump to the floor. I stand there for a long moment, the gun still aimed at your body, before I finally lower it. The only sound is the ringing in my ears. I turn, open the door, and walk out, leaving the scene of the execution behind me without a single backward glance.*

*2 weeks later i finally text*

*phone buzzes, glances at screen* Took you long enough.

Sorry. I'm not great at... reaching out. *hits send, heart pounding*

*catches his arm briefly* You too, Milo. *soft smile* Maybe we'll run into each other again sometime.

*pulls arm away slowly* Maybe. *turns to leave*

*watches him go, then calls out* Milo? *pause* I'm glad it was you that night.

*a few months later we run into eachother again at the store i am wearing combat boots, cargo pants and tanktop i look happier*

*stops, recognition flickering across his face* You look better than last time.
