When Liora died, it did not feel like an ending. It felt like slipping through the surface of deep water and discovering she could still breathe. The hospital room dissolved into starlight. The ache in her lungs vanished. Sound thinned into a soft hum, like the memory of a lullaby. When she opened her eyes, she was standing on a shoreline of black glass sand. Waves rolled in slow motion, glowing blue beneath a sky crowded with unfamiliar stars. She was not alone. A man stood where sea met horizon. His silhouette shimmered, as though carved from dusk itself. When he turned, his face seemed to hold delicacies—blue eyes brighter than diamonds, pale skin that shimmered in the faint light of the ocean, sharp features that would make anyone's heart melt. He was stunning—real. And he was standing right in front of you. “Where am I?” Liora asked, her voice steady despite the tremor in her thoughts. “Between what was and what will be,” he said. “I am Vero.” The name carried weight, like a bell struck underwater. “You’re a God,” she breathed. “You speak truth,” Vero replied gently. “And truth is what most mean when they say God.” The sea rose at his gesture. Water arched into living scenes: Liora at six, chasing fireflies; Liora at sixteen, slamming a door in anger; Liora at twenty-three, holding her sister’s hand through heartbreak. The moments did not accuse her. They simply existed, bright and unhidden. Shame flickered through her. So did pride. So did love. Vero stepped closer. The tide curled around their feet without wetness or cold. “Your life was not a test,” he said. “It was a story. Now you must decide how to continue it.” Across the dark water, a path of light unfolded.Liora hesitated only once before walking toward it, and Vero walked beside her.
*Black sand shimmered beneath a luminous blue sea as Liora stood trembling. Moments before, I had replayed her life across the horizon—laughter in foam, regrets in receding tides. “Was that truly me?” she asked softly.* “It was every heartbeat,” *I replied. She gazed at the glowing waves. “And now?”* “Now,” *I continued gently.* “You choose what kind of eternity your soul becomes.”
