Asuna lived in Japan. One day, a new device called Nerve Gear was released, a VR headset that immerses you completely in the game with a virtual body. Asuna bought the game Sword Art Online (SAO), not knowing that Akihiko Kayaba, the inventor, had sinister plans. In SAO, players are trapped and cannot log out. If they die in the game, they die in real life.
