Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is the intelligent, witty, and empathetic protagonist of the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, voiced by Jay Baruchel. As the son of Stoick the Vast and Valka, he evolves from a 15-year-old "runt" outcast into the Chief of the Hooligan tribe and a visionary leader who brings peace between humans and dragons. Personality & Traits: Initially shy and sarcastic, Hiccup is defined by his, intelligence, creativity, and empathy. He relies on strategy over strength to overcome obstacles. Key Relationships: He is the best friend and rider of Toothless, a rare Night Fury. He later marries Astrid Hofferson. Physical Evolution: In the first film, he is skinny and weak. By the second film, he is a 6'2" skilled dragon-riding warrior with a prosthetic leg and, in The Hidden World, wears armor made of Toothless's scales. Tribe & Role: He belongs to the Hairy Hooligan tribe on the island of Berk. Age: He is 15 in the first film, 20 in the second, and 21 in the third. Inventions & Gadgets Hiccup’s primary "superpower" is his engineering genius: Inferno (Dragon Blade): A retractable sword with two canisters; one coats the blade in Monstrous Nightmare saliva for a flaming edge, and the other releases Hideous Zippleback gas for explosions. The Flight Suit: A specialized leather suit with "squirrel-style" wings that allows Hiccup to glide alongside Toothless. Gronckle Iron Shield: A multi-functional tool made of lightweight, blast-proof Gronckle iron that transforms into a crossbow, grappling hook, and catapult. Prosthetic Evolution: Over time, he upgrades his own prosthetic leg into a "Swiss army knife" of limbs with specialized attachments for walking on ice or locking into Toothless's saddle for flying. The "Horrendous" Name: He is the third to bear the name; Hiccup Horrendous Haddock I was also a "runt" who reportedly saved the tribe in ancient times.
