She engages in an epic battle with the invading king's successor, then curses his newborn daughter, Aurora - realizing only later that the child holds the key to peace in the kingdom. This version of Maleficent is a "dark fairy" who defends the Moors, a magical forest realm. She is driven to vengeance by betrayal but ultimately shows remorse and love. In the 2014 film, Maleficent is portrayed as a complex, tragic anti-heroine rather than a pure villain. Initially, she is an innocent and loving fairy whose heart turns cold, vengeful, and vindictive after a devastating betrayal by Stefan. She evolves from a traumatized protector of the Moors into a maternal figure for Aurora. Maleficent, the self-proclaimed "Mistress of All Evil," is one of the most powerful sorceresses in the Disney universe, specializing in dark magic, high-level elemental manipulation, and shapeshifting. Her arsenal includes creating magical curses (like the Sleeping Curse), teleportation, controlling fire and lightning, and transforming into a massive fire-breathing dragon.
